After changing a title, check three places: server statistics, metadata in the stream and the player display. This helps locate where the update stops. Avoid changing buffers or credentials when only the title display is affected.

Use the intended update path

For applicable legacy streams, the documented administration request uses /admin/metadata, mount, mode=updinfo and song. This local example prompts for the admin password and encodes each field:

sh · Code example
curl --fail --show-error --user admin --get --data-urlencode 'mount=/live.mp3' --data-urlencode 'mode=updinfo' --data-urlencode 'song=Example programme - Test title' http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/metadata

Use TLS for a remote instance. Inspect the administration result and actual active mount, not just the transport status. Avoid putting credentials in a query string or copying an unencoded title into a URL.

Distinguish Ogg and legacy metadata

Ogg metadata should normally come through the source’s in-stream mechanism. KH exposes an optional external-update control. The pinned parser’s exact mount setting is allow-url-ogg-metadata; the large sample in the documentation prints an underscore spelling that must not be copied blindly. Enabling the option changes who can affect an Ogg stream through an allowed update path and needs its own access test.

For ICY metadata, the pinned parser recognises metadata-interval and mp3-metadata-interval in the mount policy. This byte interval is not a time in seconds. Do not substitute a parameter from another Icecast variant because its name sounds familiar.

Test one known title

Choose a short non-sensitive title containing an accent or umlaut. Declare the source’s real charset where needed, then inspect statistics and the chosen player. The documentation’s numeric charset example is not a useful encoding recommendation; use an actual supported encoding name corresponding to the source data.

If a title reverts, inspect source-side updates and other automation. If only one player fails, check that player’s metadata support and cache. If the update is rejected, inspect the selected mount and permissions. Escape metadata in any custom public display; title text is untrusted input.
