These answers cover common questions about Icecast KH and apply to the source version documented in this handbook. Read the linked guide before changing a running server.
Is this snapshot the kh22 release?
No. The reviewed master commit is dated 21 November 2023, while the kh22 release was published on 4 July 2023. Both declare the same version family; record the commit as well.
Why does my wildcard policy not apply?
An exact mount match is considered first. Among applicable patterns, lower numeric priority wins; equal-priority ordering also matters. Inspect the selected policy before changing credentials.
Can a second source replace the first?
KH has an explicit hijack policy for source takeover. Enable it only intentionally and test replacement, metadata and listener continuity with disposable sources.
Does changing the relay origin change the public mount?
The local-mount names the public path independently from each host candidate. Preserve it when designing origin failover and verify that formats and authentication remain compatible.
Is an HTTP 200 callback enough to admit a listener?
No. The configured approval header must be present. Test missing headers, rejection, timeouts and backend errors; do not infer approval from status alone.
Does hidden make a stream private?
No. Listing visibility is distinct from admission. Protect every direct, alias and fallback media path with the intended authentication and network policy.
Does setting bitrate encode the stream?
No. Descriptive bitrate metadata does not transcode media. The source encoder, container and receiving player must be compatible.
Why does the old fallbacks admin URL fail?
The pinned implementation registers fallback in the singular. Check the exact command table and required parameters before building changing administrative requests.
Continue with a concrete procedure
Use the configuration reference to locate scope, URL authentication for callback response details and diagnostics for request/log correlation. Behavioural tests still require an isolated running instance.
